Surprise, AZ (December 12, 2019) Consecutive weekend restrictions have been scheduled for intersection of Jomax Road and 163rd Avenue for road improvement work.
Jomax Road will be closed to east and westbound traffic at the 163rd Avenue intersection; north and southbound access will be maintained; however, motorists will be unable to make turn movements onto Jomax Road. Flaggers will be in the intersection as needed to maintain North/South traffic.
Motorists can expect the restrictions to be in place beginning 8 p.m. Friday, December 20 to 5 a.m. Monday, December 23; and again, 8 p.m. Friday, December 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, December 30.
Surprise, AZ (December 11, 2019) The city’s DevelopNEXT effort to simplify and modernize its development and design standards is advancing, with drafts of chapters 101 -108 of the Land Development Ordinances (LDO) online for public and stakeholder review and comment.
- The purpose of the LDO is to regulate things like: housing density, commercial uses, industrial uses, building types, setback & heights, connectivity, landscaping, lighting, open space and parking requirements.
The drafts of Chapters 101-105 are now online as second versions after going out for public and stakeholder review earlier this year, as well as before the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council at a Work Session. The chapters cover:
Surprise, AZ (December 6, 2019) The City of Surprise is excited to host the Fourth Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration and Service on Saturday, January 18th, 2020 in the outside courtyard of City Hall, located at 16000 North Civic Center Plaza.
A light breakfast will be served to the first 500 attendees beginning at 8:30 a.m. A program celebrating Dr. King’s life will begin at 9 a.m. and will include a variety of local musicians, performers and fun for the entire family. Our emcee is Steve Irvin, Emmy award-winning journalist and anchor of ABC15 News. Our keynote speaker is Kenja Hassan, Director of Cultural Relations in ASU’s Office of Government and Community Engagement. Hassan works to develop a meaningful presence for ASU in diverse communities and launched the State of Black Arizona. Around 9:45 a.m., all will be invited to participate in Surprise Day of Service projects throughout the city. More than 400 volunteers are expected to serve their neighbors with more than a dozen service projects.
