Surprise, AZ (October 16, 2019) The Surprise Fire-Medical Department was awarded eight new firefighters through a federal grant. This newly-awarded grant pays for the majority of the training costs and salaries for a period of two years and a little less than half of the costs for a third year.

Starting in early January 2020, expanded hours are coming to Hollyhock Library, located at 15844 N Hollyhock St. City Council approved funding to double the weekly hours from 18 to 36 at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, October 1. The increase in hours will provide residents more access to library programs and resources offered by the city in partnership with Maricopa County Library District. The new schedule will be determined by the Parks and Recreation Commission at their next regularly scheduled meeting on October 28, 6 p.m., at Surprise City Hall in the Community Room.
