S‌urprise, A‌Z (April 16, 2019) City Manager Mike Frazier’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 City Manager Recommended Budget, presented at City Council’s April 16 Work Session, continues to focus on Council’s commitment to maintain quality public services and infrastructure, while also addressing the needs of a growing community. The FY2020 Recommended Expenditure Budget is $414 million.

Surprise, A‌Z (May 3, 2019) City of Surprise Economic Development Director Jeanine Jerkovic has been named the “2019 Economic Developer of the Year” by the Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED).

The recognition took place on May 2 at the association’s annual Economic Development Distinguished by Excellence (EDDE) Awards reception in Tucson.

Surprise, AZ (May 3, 2019) The Surprise Senior Center is offering free trial memberships to all new enrollees from May 6 through June 30, 2019.

The Senior Center offers a variety of activities for seniors, age 50 and better, and adults with disabilities. Daily programs include games, crafts, tournaments and more; hot meals are also available for purchase.

Surprise, AZ (April 30, 2019) Surprise, in partnership with the city of El Mirage, will host walk-in Utility Assistance Application Events in Surprise during the months of May and June, to assist eligible households that need support paying gas and electric utility bills.

Utility Assistance Events will be held on Thursday, May 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, and Thursday, June 6 & 13, at the Surprise Resource Center, 12425 W. Bell Rd. Bldg. A Suite #124. The first come, first serve events will take place from 3 – 7 p.m., or until fund capacity is achieved; interviews do not guarantee assistance.

Surprise, AZ (May 6, 2019) Surprise is hosting a free HOA Connection Class on June 5 that will educate attendees on new Arizona Legislation regarding planned communities, condominiums and community associations; case laws that affect how associations conduct business; and insight into successful association management.  

The class will be held on Wednesday, June 5, from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Surprise City Hall Council Overflow Room, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza.

The class content will be presented by Beth Mulcahy, Esq. of the Mulcahy Law Firm.

Surprise, A‌Z (May 17, 2019) The city of Surprise has issued public notices regarding upcoming public hearings on a proposed annexation and zoning changes related to several parcels of land in the city’s northern area.

City Council will hold two public hearings regarding the annexation (case FS18-417) of approximately 1,180 acres of unincorporated land into the City of Surprise and establish equivalent City zoning, generally located north of Dixileta Drive and east of 163rd Avenue. This case will be presented at the Regular City Council meetings on June 4 and June 18, 2019.

City of Surprise Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council will hold public hearings regarding the approval of a Major PAD Amendment (Rezone) of approximately 634 acres for Marisol Ranch (case FS18-557), generally located north of White Wing Road (alignment) and east of 163rd Avenue. This case will be presented at the Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting on June 6, 2019 and at the Regular City Council Meeting on June 18, 2019.

City of Surprise Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council will hold Public Hearings regarding the approval of a Zone Change of approximately 486 acres for Lone Mountain Ranch (case FS18-459), generally located north of Dixileta Drive and east of 163rd Avenue. This case will be presented at the Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting on June 6, 2019 and at the Regular City Council Meeting on June 18, 2019.

All meetings begin at 6 p.m. and will be held at Surprise City Hall – Council Chambers, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza.

Due to the holiday, City of Surprise trash and recycling customers ONLY are reminded that collection will be postponed by one day the week of May 27-31. Monday collection will occur on Tuesday; Tuesday collection will occur on Wednesday; Wednesday collection will occur on Thursday; Thursday collection will occur on Friday.
