Class: Beware of the deal that’s too good to be true

The city of Surprise, in partnership with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, is offering a presentation addressing the subject of ‘Scams’ on January 15.

The class will focus on all kinds of various money-stealing schemes, from those attempted over the phone, computer or at your front door.

“There are many scams out there, including the home improvement scams where a worker drives through a neighborhood wanting cash payments for work that likely will not be completed satisfactorily or in many cases at all,” says Surprise Human Services Supervisor Bob Baratko. “This class will help participants know what the latest scams are and help them spot potential scams in the future to protect them and their money.”

Future classes in this Financial Fitness educational series include “Understanding Your Credit Score,” January 28, “Identity Theft Prevention,” February 28, and Personal Budgeting” March 18. Visit www.surpriseaz.com, select the Community Initiatives Department Web page and click on “Surprise University” for more detailed information.

All classes will be held at the Community Initiatives building, 15832 N. Hollyhock Street, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

The number of participants is limited. To register, contact Bob Baratko, Human Services Supervisor, Community Initiatives Department at 623-222-1651.
