Burglars Continue To Target Unsecured Homes

SURPRISE, AZ... On early Saturday, April 26, 2008 four families in the West Point community woke to find that their homes had been burglarized while they slept. The suspect(s) entered the homes located at the 16100 block of North 138th Drive, the 13800 block of West Lundberg Street, the 16200 block of North 138th Drive and the 16200 block of North 137th Drive in Surprise AZ through unlocked sliding rear doors.

Police believe this may be the work of the same criminals who struck five homes in the Litchfield Manor and Copper Canyon Communities earlier this month. As in those burglaries, the suspect(s) took wallets and purses, jewelry and electronics from homes while the homeowners slept.

Chief of Police Daniel Hughes stated “We can’t stress just how important it is to secure your homes while you sleep” “The brazenness of this individual(s) is extremely dangerous” Hughes went on to say “we are finding that residents are locking up their homes while they are at work, but then leave their doors unlocked while they are sleeping”. Sgt. Mark Ortega of Surprise Police Crime Prevention Unit is advising residents to lock their windows and doors while they sleep and to report any suspicious activity immediately. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Surprise Police Department at 623.222.4243 or 623.222.4000.
