Surprise calling out to all HOAs
Surprise, AZ (August 4, 2008) The City of Surprise is calling out to all HOAs, operating within the city, to update valuable contact information.
The city is looking to compile a list of all HOA board member names and contact information. This will serve as a valuable tool in which the city can directly contact HOA board presidents and members concerning specific community issues.
All contact information will be kept CONFIDENTIAL and used only by the city to communicate with board members. We are requesting HOA name, board members names and e-mail addresses, and board position.
This information can be emailed to either our Human Services Supervisors: Ruby.Sitea@surpriseaz.com or Robert.Baratko@surpriseaz.com. You can also call either one with questions at 623.222.1653 or 623.222.1651.
SURPRISE, AZ (August 4, 2008) Surprise, as a member of the Water – Use It Wisely campaign, offers several tips to help residents properly design their drip irrigation systems to save time and money.
Ask questions when buying irrigation components. Most irrigation stores that specialize in irrigation parts also have qualified staff members who can help design your irrigation system.
Hire a pro. It pays to hire a licensed contractor to do the work. While it may cost more than doing it yourself, you’re likely to save money in the long run by ensuring a properly designed system for your unique landscape needs.
Speak the pro’s language. Ask the Surprise Water Conservation Division for information about Xeriscape Landscaping and Proper Landscape Watering techniques.
Use separate valves for turf and plant areas. Group plants with similar water needs on the same valve. Trees should be on a separate valve than shrubs and groundcover.
Install a backflow preventer. A properly installed anti-siphon/vacuum breaker assembly prevents dirt, fertilizer or other hazardous substances from contaminating your drinking water.

SURPRISE, AZ (August 4, 2008) The City of Surprise is encouraging all Surprise businesses to participate in Westmarc’s West Valley Workforce and Labor Market Survey.
“This survey is so important to our efforts in attracting new businesses to Surprise,” says Economic Development Director John Hagen. “The workforce data we have now is dated and doesn’t represent the current education, skill and wage levels of Surprise and other West Valley residents.”
Surprise contributed $62,200 to the study and will be reimbursed $44,000 from Maricopa Workforce Connections and $6,600 from Rio Salado College. Surprise will receive both the regional data and its own workforce profile data.
Employers with 20 or more employees can expect a call this month from ERISS Corporation, the research firm hired to conduct the survey. The survey will take as little as 10 minutes to complete and includes questions about current and future workforce demands and barriers that might prevent a company’s growth.
Businesses can view the questions in advance by logging on to www.usworks.com/WESTMARC/questions.cfm . Employers can wait to be contacted by ERISS, set up a telephone appointment in advance, or receive the survey by fax, by calling 866-491-3747, ext. 212.
Surprise is a member of Westmarc, a regional advocacy organization for the West Valley.
SURPRISE, AZ (July 25, 2008) After Phoenix closed its pools recently; Surprise took proactive measures and sent water samples to be tested for Cryptosporidium, a parasite that is resistant to chlorine disinfection and causes severe diarrhea.
Both the Hollyhock Community Pool and the Surprise Aquatic Center tested negative for Cryptosporidium confirming at this time that neither pool has the “Crypto” parasite in the water.
Staff will continue to educate and promote healthy swimming habits which according to the CDC include changing children’s diapers often, practice good hygiene and don’t bring children to water parks or pools if they are experiencing diarrhea.
