I went to the City of Surprise Special Council meeting last night, addressed them on the call to the public. Wanted to talk about Agenda Item #4 but because the CM lumped numbers 3, 4 and 5 together, Mayor Lyn Truitt jumped to Item #6 so the public was shut out of #4 and #5.

State’s sales-tax take is down in all major areas vs. Aug. ‘08

Continuing the year’s tough trend, Arizona’s sales-tax collections dropped in all major categories in August compared with the same month a year earlier, state officials reported this week.
Total collections dropped to nearly $362 million, down more than 16 percent from August 2008, the Arizona Department of Revenue said.
For the fiscal year so far, the total collections are down 17.1 percent compared with the previous fiscal year.
Surprise Fire to host presentation on homelessness
The Surprise Fire Department invites you to attend the “Faces of Homelessness” presentation, Wednesday, October 28, where you will hear from real people that know first hand about living life without a home.
The Brown Bag Lunch presentation, part of Arizona Homelessness Awareness Week (Oct. 25-31), is scheduled for 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. at the Surprise Public Safety Building- Fire Administration, 14250 W. Statler Plaza Blvd., Suite 100.
Tennis
The parking lot, on the north side of Surprise Lake at Surprise Community Park, will be closed to park visitors October 8 – 11, due to the 2nd Annual Cancer Treatment Centers of America Tennis Championships event, sponsored by Sanderson Volvo.
The north parking lot will be used for $5 event parking for people coming to the tennis tournament at the neighboring Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex, Oct. 8 – 11.
