Mr. Vukanovich, In response to your questions, ACM Kathy Rice is the interim Community Development Director, following Mr. Chesney’s departure last month and ACM Doug Sandstrom has been the interim HR Director ever since Mr. Wood left this past summer. As for the HR Director position, the city hired an outside recruiter to recruit for the position nationwide from the very beginning of the process. In fact, Mr. Bowers (who begins as the HR Director Jan. 14) comes from Ohio.
If you need anything else, please let me know. Thank you and enjoy your day,
Where are the Christmas decorations?
There is always a dark hole when we ask questions from the city, I hope that when the new council takes office that our questions will be answered.
When I was on the council we spent between 100 to 200 thousand dollars for decorations, after Christmas in a council meeting I asked where were the decorations being kept. The answer that we received, they were stored in the warehouse, I asked the question whose warehouse, staff replied in the suppliers whom we had purchased them from.
Since that time I have never seen them again, maybe staff could explain, but I have a problem getting answers.

The Surprise Senior Center accepted a check last week from the Sun City Grand Tennis Club for $12,000. The money was raised by the tennis club’s annual Shine in the Sun tournament, 113 teams of active seniors from as far away as Florida and Canada. The Senior Center, 15832 N. Hollyhock St., Surprise, will use the funds to renovate the kitchen and dining facilities to provide hot meals on site to the hundreds of seniors who gather there to make new friends, learn new skills, exercise and partake in games and entertainment. Senior Center supervisor Leslie Rudders said the donation was the largest the center had ever received.
The Sun City Grand Tennis Club hosts the five-day tournament every year, but this year was the largest and most successful ever. Tournament directors Shirley Williams and Kit Brennan of Sun City Grand attributed their success to the support of local businesses and individuals. Discount Tires was the major sponsor this year.

Things like this hurts our city, I have not seen an article saying this….Bob Vukanovich |
Just when we think we’ve seen everything, this council can come up with the unexpected, there is no rhythm nor reason how they conduct these meetings. In the meeting last night I thought they lost complete credibility in the way the cities business is conducted.

John, I had a call from Bob Vukanovich (former Councilman) who was wondering when the NW Valley Chamber of Commerce would be changing its name and logo to Surprise Chamber of Commerce. Can you shed some light on that? Stephanie Wilson Assistant to the City Manager City of Surprise

Yes. They are required to change their name as part of the contract. They are going through a process that will involve members choosing between some alternatives, such as Greater Surprise Chamber, Surprise Area Chamber, etc. They are also creating a new logo and collateral materials, etc. So this may take 90-120 days to complete, as spelled out in the contract. I expect that sometime early next calendar year–say, late January or early February–they will start rolling it out, probably with a big announcement.

Bloggers on the newszap website continue to knock me down and say that I should fade away in the blue yonder, because of my concern for this city, that is not going to happen.
All of us must work together with our newly elected Mayor Lyn Truitt so that he can accomplice his goals.
But let me tell you folks, it is a pipe dream to believe that we will have any control over the City Council (by elections or recall) without a City Charter.
SURPRISE, AZ (November 19, 2007) In an effort to keep old cell phones from piling up inside of our landfills, the Surprise Senior Center is partnering with the National Council on Aging & Cellular Recycler to recycle old cell phones. Most parts of cell phones are not bio-degradable and many users get new model phones every two years creating a surplus of throw-away phones.“This is a win-win opportunity for the environment and our seniors,” says Senior Center Supervisor Leslie Rudders. “Not only are we reducing the number of phones in the landfills, but recycling rebates offered by Cellular Recycler, will benefit and support Senior Center Programs.”Drop bins are available at the Surprise Senior Center, 15832 N. Hollyhock Street. The Senior Center is open Monday –Friday from 8 a.m. -5 p.m. For further information please call 623-222-1500.
