Councilman Mike Woodward
Went back a few years on comments that were made by Mike Woodard on newszap before becoming (a councilman), they were informational, he expressed his opinions and thoughts on the issues of the City of Surprise.
Mike Woodward used newszap to his advantage, now that he has been elected a Councilman in Surprise, Az, newszap is a no-no. How people change.
Mike Woodward decided when he ran for office and since being elected our Councilman not to say anything in the news media except for propaganda purposes.
Councilman Mike, having used it before, tell us through newszap.com, what is happening in Surprise, good and bad.

Did you know that minor water leaks account for more than 1 trillion gallons of water wasted each year in U.S. homes? That’s why Surprise, as a member of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) WaterSense program, encourage residents to participate during “Fix a Leak Week,” March 15- 21.
“Leaks can account for 11,000 gallons of water wasted in the home every year, or enough to fill a backyard swimming pool,” says Surprise Environmental Manager Christine Nuñez. “Here in the desert southwest, we cannot afford to waste this precious resource.”
Not to mention the cost savings to your wallet. Fixing easily corrected leaks can save homeowners more than 10 percent on their water bills. So, if your water bill seems too high, chances are you have a leak somewhere inside or outside of your home. Routine inspections can save you money.
WaterSense provides the following water-saving tips:
- Check faucet washers and gaskets for wear and, if necessary, replace.
- Leaky toilets are most often the result of a worn toilet flapper. Replace the rubber flapper to save up to 200 gallons of water per day.
- Leaky garden hose? Replace the nylon/ rubber hose washer and ensure a tight connection to the spigot using pipe tape and a wrench.
- Landscape irrigation systems should be checked each spring before use. Turn on the irrigation system in the early morning and let it run for an hour. If there is any water on the street or sidewalk in front of your home, check for the leak’s source and have it repaired.
If homeowners have to replace a plumbing fixture, EPA reminds them to look for the WaterSense label, as these products have been independently tested and certified to save water and perform as well as or better than standard models.

Budweiser Clydesdales
Surprise, AZ (March 3, 2010) The world famous Budweiser Clydesdales, the symbol of quality and tradition for Anheuser-Busch since 1933, will be in Surprise, this weekend!
Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc. is sponsoring a visit from the Budweiser Clydesdales, one of the world’s most recognizable symbols. The Clydesdale visit is as scheduled:
Saturday March 6 Surprise Recreation Campus – Full hitch show 15850 W Bullard
11am – 1pm
Sunday March 7 Surprise Recreation Campus – Full hitch show 15850 W Bullard
11am – 1pm
Canadians of Scottish descent brought the first Clydesdales to America in the mid-1800’s. Today, the giant draft horses are used primarily for breeding and show.
Horses chosen for the Budweiser Clydesdale Hitch must be at least three years of age, stand approximately 18 hands - or six feet - at the shoulder, weigh an average of 2,000 pounds, must be bay in color, have four white stockings, and a blaze of white on the face and black mane and tail. A gentle temperament is very important, as hitch horses often meet millions of people each year. A single Clydesdale hitch horse will consume as much as 20-25 quarts of feed, 40-50 pounds of hay and 30 gallons of water per day.
Each hitch travels with a Dalmatian dog. In the early days of brewing, Dalmatians were bred and trained to protect the horses and guard the wagon when the driver went inside to make deliveries.
Budweiser Clydesdale traveling hitches are based in St. Louis, MO; Menifee, CA; San Antonio, TX; San Diego, CA; and Merrimack, NH. The Budweiser Clydesdales can be viewed at the following Anheuser-Busch breweries: St. Louis, MO; Merrimack, NH; and Ft. Collins, CO. Also Budweiser Clydesdales can be viewed at Grant’s Farm in St. Louis, MO and at the following Anheuser-Busch Theme Parks: Busch Gardens Tampa, FL; Busch Gardens Williamsburg, VA; Sea World San Diego, CA; Sea World Orlando, FL; and Sea World, TX.

The City of Surprise Census 2010 Complete Count Committee and the Surprise Regional Chamber of Commerce are working together to promote Census 2010 participation.
“It makes sense for our business community to support the Census,” says Surprise Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO David Moss. “The federal dollars attached to an accurate Census population count help fund job training centers, improve transportation and support education, and that is good for business and the community.”
Census data is used by local decision-makers to determine where new roads, hospitals, child-care facilities, senior citizen centers and schools should be built.
And businesses use census data to determine where to locate supermarkets, new housing and other facilities.
“I look forward to meeting with Chamber members this month to garner Census support,” says Surprise Economic Development Manager Jeanine Jerkovic, also the staff liaison to the city’s Citizen Census Committee. “We will be offering free window clings, promoting the Census, to anyone wanting to put them in their storefront windows and discuss other options, such as printing a Census reminder on their receipts.”
In mid-March the Census Bureau will begin mailing forms to all residences and residents should complete their form and return it by National Census Day, April 1.
Each Surprise resident counted by the Census equals $1,300 in federal funds for the city to support public safety, transportation, senior services and other important civic needs.
An accurate population count, as determined every 10 years by the Census, is tied to more than $400 billion in federal funding split nationwide and determines how many congressional seats each state receives in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Census is completely confidential and takes about 10 minutes to complete the 10 questions.
For more information about Census 2010, or to see the form questions, visit www.surpriseaz.com/census2010, or the U.S. Census Bureau’s site at www.2010census.gov.

Surprise, AZ (February 25, 2010) The soccer match between Chivas USA and Columbus Crew has been relocated back to the Reach 11 Soccer Complex in Phoenix due to the threat of rain this Saturday. After discussions with both organizations; recent rain patterns and forecast for more rain this weekend was concerning with respect to optimum field conditions and the safety of the players. The match was slated to be played on the “8” acres at the Surprise Recreation Campus. The “8” acres also serves the campus as a storm water retention basin, additional rain would flood the field and become unplayable.
Both organizations have expressed an interest in returning to the Phoenix – Surprise area in future years to engage in preseason training. Surprise is fortunate to have developed professional relationships with several MLS organizations and believes the experience will bode well with future opportunities to bring professional soccer to Surprise.
Again, the soccer match scheduled for Saturday February 27 will not take place in Surprise and will return to Reach 11 Soccer Complex in Phoenix.

In Surprise, City Manager Randy Oliver said the West Valley community projects to save $137,000 annually after eliminating vehicle allowances for employees in March. In this economy, every dollar helps.”
