New tourism website launches; showcases city as a place to “Find your Surprise”
Surprise, AZ (February 26, 2019) The city has launched a new tourism website to help showcase the city of Surprise as a year-round travel destination.
The website, ExploreSurprise.com, features the slogan “Find your Surprise,” and highlights the many ways to play, dine, shop and stay in Surprise! It inspires visitors to make the most of their stay by curating city attractions into one easy-to-navigate website filled with vibrant visual images. It also includes several trip itineraries and a blog with tips for tourists.
City of Surprise distracted driving law goes into effect 9/6
Surprise, AZ (September 4, 2018) Driving and using mobile devices that are not operating in a hands-free mode, is illegal within Surprise city limits effective this Thursday, September 6.
The two transportation departments have been working together since the summer of 2012 on the Interstate 11 and Intermountain West Corridor Study, which includes detailed corridor planning of a possible interstate link between the Phoenix and Las Vegas metropolitan areas, along with high-level visioning for potentially extending the corridor north to Canada and south to Mexico. Congress designated the future I-11 corridor between Phoenix and Las Vegas as part of the latest surface transportation bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21).

The City of Surprise archives are a mess, they should be brought up to date. How anyone can read the archives is beyond me.
The open meeting law does not specify exactly what a notice/agenda item for an executive session must say or how detailed it must be. As a result, it is not clear whether this suffices. At a minimum, I think it would probably be a better practice for the City to indicate what pending litigation it is talking about if possible.
Appointees serve until the next municipal election, which means they make decisions that shape the future of our city for up to two years before voters are able to weigh in.
It would be one thing if it were only a handful of Council members, but when the majority of our ‘elected’ officials are handpicked by their fellow politicians, we have a much larger problem at hand.
The Surprise appointment process cannot continue. As Surprise residents, we want a future where all Council members are democratically elected by us voters.

Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) §41-1279.07 requires incorporated cities and towns to prepare an Annual Expenditure Limitation Report (AELR). In addition, financial statements must be prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). On the AELR, total expenditures/expenses/deductions and applicable other financing uses, special items, and extraordinary items reported in the fund financial statements, less expenditures/expenses/deductions made with constitutionally excludable revenues is compared for compliance with the expenditure limitation.
Stadium Funds WE SHOULD THANK THE MAYOR, FORMER COUNCIL MEMBERS AND FORMER CITY MANAGER BECAUSE THEY WERE THE TRUE PIONEERS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SPRING TRAINING IN THE WEST VALLEY. THE CITY OF SURPRISE WITH THE HELP OF THE SENIOR CITIZENS OF SUN CITY AND SUN CITY WEST WAS A MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR IN THE VOTE TO EXTEND THE stadium.
