Surprise, AZ (December 2, 2020) Construction of the voter-approved Greenway Road improvement project will begin Thursday, December 3.

The project will finish the south half of Greenway Road from 800 feet west of Loop 303 to 1600 feet east of Loop 303 (approximately Cotton Lane to Sarival Avenue), adding two travel lanes and eliminating areas of the roadway that have multiple lanes merging into one lane.

In addition to more travel lanes, the project includes turn lanes, drainage infrastructure, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, street lighting and landscaping.

Surprise, AZ (December 1, 2020) Residents and businesses in Surprise can now rent roll off containers directly from the city’s Solid Waste department.

Roll off containers are ideal for larger amounts of non-hazardous refuse (not regular household trash) and can be used for construction, industrial and home improvement projects such as home remodels or landscape renovations.

close to home

Just a line to say I’m living , that I’m not among the dead. Though I’m getting more forgetful and mixed up in the head. When it’s dark outside I don’t know if I’m retiring or just getting out of bed.

city of surprise executive sessions

I don’t believe the City of Surprise is following the law when an executive session is to be held , they must state the specific provision of law authorizing the executive session. A general citation to A.R.S # 38-431.03 or subsection (A) of that section is insufficent. The public body must cite the paragraph applicable to the matters to be discussed.
I also disagree with some of their Consent Agenda items.

The city was in violation of the open meeting in 1960.

A freq uent recurrence to fundamental principles is essential to the security of individual rights and the perpetuity of free government.

We approved the “HOME RULE” proposition, giving us control over the city’s spending versus the state. Without Home Rule , the city’s budget would be determined by a state-imposed formula.

In Arizona some city’s elect their council members at large, others including Surprise elect council members by district. Douglas elects by wards, Districts verus Wards These are both terms for part of a city or town. A ward is always a legally defined political subdivision. A district may be legally defined, but this word can also be used in an informal sense to describe any area.

CITY OF SURPRISE Boards and Commissions Nominations Committee members Chair Roland F. Winters, Jr., Committee Member, Ken Remley and Committee Member, Nancy Hayden.

The mayor may make this designation for each opening, or the mayor may elect to appoint a nominations or chair on an ongoing basis, during which all openings would be addressed until such time as the mayor elects to make a new designation.

A.R.S. §38-431.03 The motion to go into Executive Session must cite the purpose of the Executive Session and must be adopted at an open meeting.
